What to do with your yarn leftovers ? Scrunchies !
They are back and this is a good news, because we would like to collect them as we collect yarn. They are quick to knit, for you or for your friends and family. Besides, if you're looking for DIY Christmas gift ideas, these scrunchies are perfect! So why not reuse your yarn leftovers to knit a few?
Both scrunchies that I would like to share with you here are greedy:
The Chouquette Scrunchie : with its little nopes that make it looks like the French pastry.
The Choco Scrunchie : in stockinette stitch, but sewn 1 cm from its edge for a frilly effect (and with chocolate color, of course).
Even Moka would like to keep them to himself !
Both scrunchies are knitted in double threads of silk & mohair yarn.
The Chouquette Scrunchie nopes are in a contrasting color for this tutorial, but you can easily use only one color if you want.
You will need :
NEEDLES : Circular 5 mm (US 8) / câble 40 cm or 80 cm for the magic loop, or double point needles 5 mm (your choice, with your favorite method of circular knitting).
GAUGE : 17 stitches x 22 rows in stockinette stitches, needles 5mm (US 8) = 10 x 10 cm (4 x 4 inch).
MATERIAL : Wool : Silk Mohair leftover, about 15 g for one scrunchie.
For both scrunchies, I used double yarn of the Isager yarn silk mohair.
You will need a hair elastic of your choice.
TECHNIQUES :
- Simple Cast-on
- Stockinette stitch in the round
- Simple Bind-off
- Knitting nopes for the Chouquette Scrunchie.
Reminder for the stockinette stitch in the round : all stitches are a knit stitch on each rows.

Rounds 25 to 30 : With the yarn color A : knit in stockinette stitch all the rounds.
Next round, bind-off your stitches and cut your thread, keeping about 30 cm in length.
CHOCO SCRUNCHIE :
Cast-on 80 stitches. Join to knit in the round, making sure that you don't twist your work. Place the stitch marker at the round beginning.
Rounds 1 to 30 : Knit in stockinette stitch all the rounds.
Next round, bind-off your stitches and cut your thread, keeping about 30 cm in length.
FINISHING :
For both scrunchies: Turn your work to the wrong side, and insert it into the elastic. Fold it in half, wrong side to wrong side, both edges against each other (so your work is folded, right side up again) :
For the Chouquette Scrunchie :
Sew the two edges together using a wool needle.
Weave in all ends.
I then advise you to slide the sewn edge towards the inside of the scrunchie to have the outside edge neat and round without the seam.
For the Choco Scrunchie :
Sew to 1 cm from the edge with a wool needle, by making a basting stitch.
Weave in all ends.
